The 2024 Office of the Vice President’s Pride Reception at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City on June 25 gathered around 600 members of the LGBT community from various regions of the country.
Organized by the OVP in collaboration with LGBT Pilipinas Inc., the Pride Reception was aimed at gathering advocates, LGBTQIA+ community leaders, and allies advocating for equality.
In her opening remarks, Atty. Samantha Tan, legal counsel of the LGBT Pilipinas Inc., underscored the true purpose of LGBTQ advocacy. “Hindi ito special rights. Hindi rin ito pananawagan ng kung ano-ano mang karapatan. This is our basic human rights,” Tan emphasized.
Vice President Sara Duterte also highlighted the event by presenting checks to 19 LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs from Cagayan de Oro, each receiving P15,000 as beneficiaries of OVP's Mag Negosyo ta ‘Day Program (MTD). This livelihood assistance aims to support microenterprises such as sari-sari stores, food vending, beauty salons, and hair and makeup services.
The annual OVP Pride Reception aims to strengthen voices, raise awareness, and enrich dialogues that promote LGBT rights and acceptance in Philippine society. This marks the second Pride Reception organized by the OVP, following last year's event in Quezon City.
