In response to the November 17 earthquake in Mindanao, Vice President Sara Duterte attended the meeting of the Response Cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) convened by the Secretary of the Department of National Defense, Gilbert Teodoro.
The Vice President emphasized the need to enhance the government's capacity to deliver immediate aid and rehabilitation to affected areas, not only in the present but also in future disasters. This commitment extends beyond the current situation to ensure effective governance in upcoming crises.
Among the topics discussed in the meeting were the potential effects of two low pressure areas expected to happen before the year ends, a focus on the necessity for LGUs to prepare for heavy rainfall, landslides, and flooding. Coordination among different agencies was highlighted as a crucial aspect of ensuring a seamless response to potential crises.
Also discussed was the report from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on the expected transport strike today (Monday). The need for inter-agency coordination was underscored to maintain order and support commuters who may be affected by the transport strike.
