OVP-DOC holds relief ops for Mindoro oil spill victims

The Office of the Vice President Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC), has brought relief aid to four oil spill-hit towns of Oriental Mindoro.

The five-day relief mission from April 14-18 initiated was able to distribute 1,616 sacks of rice equivalent to 80,000 kilograms to 8,241 fisherfolk beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries came from 22 barangays from Calapan City and the towns of Naujan, Pola and Pinamalayan. Each recipient received 10 kilograms of rice.

Oriental Mindoro recorded 8,291 affected residents in the city of Calapan and in the towns of Naujan, Pola, Pinamalayan and Bulalacao.

The relief mission was the third operation undertaken by the OVP-DOC following the sinking of MT Princess Empress off the coast of Naujan on February 28, spilling 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil.

Vice President Sara Duterte on March 13 visited the province of Antique, which was also affected by the oil spill.

The Vice President, during her visit to Antique, led the distribution of 1,200 food boxes affected residents in the towns of Semirara, Tinogboc, Alegria, Sibolo, Sitio Liwagao.

On March 31, the OVP-DOC also distributed 1,310 food boxes to residents in Batangas, another province affected by the oil spill.
