Vice President Sara Duterte personally and posthumously conferred the OVP Gawad Makabansa Award to Jundel P. Escorel, an 18-year-old from Toledo City, Cebu. On February 4, 2024, Jundel bravely saved the lives of two minors, aged 11 and 12, from drowning at a beach resort in Liloan, Cebu, an act of heroism that ultimately cost him his own life.

The OVP Gawad Makabansa is an award from the Office of the Vice President that honors exceptional Filipinos who have demonstrated remarkable service and selflessness for the nation.

Jundel's twin brother, Junrel P. Escorel, and their father, Emmanuel T. Escorel, accepted the OVP Gawad Makabansa Award on his behalf on November 15, 2024, during the celebration of the 89th Anniversary of the Office of the Vice President.
