Vice President Sara Duterte attended this year's Teodora Alonzo Awards 2023, the 5th National Competition in Storybook Writing in Davao.

Acknowledging the challenges of writing, the Vice President expressed admiration for Filipino educators who shared their gift of writing stories with the learners.

Stories written by teachers, VP Duterte said, will serve as additional educational materials for children learning the foundational skills of writing and reading.

She hopes teachers become an inspiration to their learners.

The Vice President also announced the launching of the Department of Education’s initiative “Catch Up Friday,” which will devote a day a week for students to focus on essential skills like reading and writing.
